Great people and even greater experience
Amazing staff , amazing food.
I decided to get sober for the first time in my life, at age 47. I spent 5wks at PLR, and have been sober for 2yrs & 3mos today 🙂
I still speak with a number of new found friends in recovery from PLR, and none of this would have been posisble with the wonderful staff, doctors, pshche team and members of our cohort.
TY PLR
PLR is a wonderful example of a rehab that uses therapy to address the underlying issues. The team of therapists there tackle the traumas that CAUSED our substance use rather than just focusing on the fact that we use. Highly recommend, if you can afford it.
Great staff, they take a more progressive and all encompassing approach than the standard 12 step programs. The bio/social/psycho view touches on the three major aspects of recovery. Highly recommend.
Um I haven't started yet so really can't say
Still sober
I went to Recovery Village two & a half years ago & I'm still sober, it’s the longest that I’ve been sober in my life.
Response from the owner:Congratulations on two and a half years of sobriety—that’s an incredible accomplishment! We’re so honored to have been part of your journey and to hear how impactful your time at Recovery Village was. Wishing you continued success and happiness on this amazing path you’ve created for yourself. Keep thriving! 🌟💪🎉
Best self-care decision I have made in my 53 years of life. 2.5 years and still alcohol free! It was made amazing by the incredible staff/counselors/medical team. Perfect setting and comfort options. I expected (1st/only inpatient rehab stint) to be walking into a scary lockdown type place and I could not have been more wrong. Their trauma program changed my life for the best. I recommend it to anyone struggling. I am indebted to this place for always. Should I ever find myself with substance abuse issues in the future I will be immediately head back to PLR.
Response from the owner:Congratulations on 2.5 years alcohol-free—that’s an incredible achievement and such a testament to your strength and commitment! We’re honored to have been part of your journey and are so glad the trauma program and care from our team made such a life-changing impact. It’s wonderful to hear that your experience was far from what you expected and that you felt supported and comfortable throughout. Your recommendation and kind words mean so much to us. Wishing you continued happiness and success in your journey, and remember—we’ll always be here if you ever need us again. 🌟💙👏
Response from the owner:Thank you for the 5 star review!
Best Recovery Program ever. If you've had the appetizers at other facilities...get ready for the main course here.
Olivia is the best bht !!
It’s amazing.
Great experience. Jodi, Dr. G and Jamie were awesome (among many other staff) highly recommend. Very helpful with my plans for leaving and aftercare. Spend at least 30 days here (more if you can!)
Marissa is a godsend! She worked beyond hard to get me into this program, I was completely lost and she and the rest of the administration helped me tremendously and I am beyond grateful!
The following was a post I made when leaving recovery village 2/2020. I have faced adversity, but remained sober and content even in sadness or moments of panic-moments pass. It has been four and a half years since I was in treatment and I still use the tools and support I learned to use at Recovery Village. You are not forced into AA/NA, but work to get to the root problem and how to manage successfully and consistently.
The following was and still is true.
I had a wonderful experience! My therapist, Robert, was wonderful and a perfect fit for me! He held me accountable, yet was kind. I also appreciate how he and Shane made my son feel welcome from the beginning of the process. My son LOVED family day with Cindy and even asked to come to another session with her. I always felt Stephen was approachable and all the staff was wonderful. Thank you to Ashley for helping me create a solid follow up plan even with the corona virus happening. I would recommend this program and have it listed in my 911 plan in case of any problem. Thank you to everyone!!!
This is not my first go ‘round at a recovery center so I absolutely mean this when I say: This is THE BEST place I have ever gone. So much so that I plan to work the ENTIRE program. Every single staff member from the directors, therapists, medical, BHT’s, chefs and janitorial workers is just astounding. I’ve never felt safer and truly heard. This program is incredibly informative and I’ve already learned so much. Thank you, PLR for being amazing!!
All the staff is phenomenal. No bad experiences with any of the staff, to include case management, therapists, BHTs, nurses and support staff. Highly recommend!
I can't say enough about PLR. From the first intake on the phone to my arrival, the care I received while there and the intense CBT classes changed my whole self. I went all in and I don't regret a single bit. I am now in the IOP program via Zoom and continue to receive the care I experienced during my stay.
One year ago, June 28th, 2023, I checked myself into The Recovery Village at Palmer Lake. I was broken, scared and didn’t have one answer - other than I needed help.
I was beyond sick and tired of being sick and tired.
After my 41 day stay, I walked out the door feeling alive again. I was happy again. Feeling again. The education I received still leaves me feeling so very grateful. You have to bust your tail in here - if you want it.
The warmth. The understanding. The guidance. The pushes and nudges.
I think about every person that helped me on my sobriety path in there.. they became “my people.”
I couldn’t think of a better way to end this day….to recognize and pay my sincere gratitude and respects to the wonderful people who make Palmer Lake what it is. One year later… I AM STILL SOBER😊.
Thank you🤍

Nestled in a valley, surrounded by picturesque mountains and bluffs, is a place that will save your life. The Recovery Village at Palmer Lake is unlike any other rehab facility. I’ve been to two others and PLR is far and away THE place to go for recovery. The entire program is vastly different than anything I’ve experienced. It’s a well thought out program which starts in detox, then residential inpatient, followed by partial hospitalization (PHP) and finally IOP, if you choose to stay. My personal involvement included a 6 week inpatient stay at PLR, which took me through PHP 3 and thus the end of the main programming. Lengths of stay vary depending on your progress, history and insurance.
While PLR offers 12 step meetings and encourages that participation, their program doesn’t completely revolve around AA/NA. Rather, the focus is on the root cause of the addiction. With the concept being that our DOC (drug of choice) was our solution and not our problem. Therefore, the program is heavily based on discovering the deep rooted traumas, histories, hurts, etc that drove to one’s use of their DOC. PLR focuses on the brain’s development and the why behind how it works and how it keeps us stuck. They discuss communication styles, family dynamics, co-dependency, psychodrama (highly recommend this class with Arno in PHP3), neurological function, relapse prevention, trauma work as well as a multitude of other concepts. The focus is on this, so that the patient can better understand themselves, in a process of detangling each one from our substances.
The trauma work at PLR is incredible! The facility offers EMDR (recommend Laura, EMDR therapist) for those who stay through weeks 1-3 of PHP. I had never experienced EMDR before and I’m comfortable to say, from my experience, that it works wonders! I was able to discharge from PLR with the capacity to close past traumas and the ability to be able to think through them, process them and no longer be panicked or reactive to them. In addition to EMDR, there are groups that also do vast trauma work.
Each person at this facility will change your life on a soul level. I have never felt so loved, valued, comfortable or considered as I did during my time at PLR. The clinicians, behavioral health techs, medical staff and nurses work together to treat the entirety of the patient. There are so many truly special people on staff who only want the best for you! Particular shout outs include:

- Clinicians: Cindy, Dr. G, David, Traeman, Janet, Julie (recommend parenting class), Aaron, Rob, Tammy, Sayeh
- BHTs: Jamie, John, Nathan, Darrell, Hannah, Melissa, Anthony, Marcos
- Activity Coordinator: Elizabeth
- Medical: Psych NP Joanne
- Dietary: Heather, Saoirse, Karen
- Case Manager: Amanda
- Executive Director: Chris
- RN’s: Julie, Patty, Quinn, Erin, DON Kristen

All of these people have significantly touched my life and I will never forget them! I’m so blessed and grateful to have known them.

Lastly, some FYIs:
- Smoking and vaping are allowed within the smoking area.
- Dietary: food isn’t the greatest or most healthy but the staff will work diligently with you to accommodate special needs. They were amazing to me!
- The facility has a walking trail, basketball, pickle ball, a gym, a pool, volleyball, equine therapy off site, as well as other rec activities. Be advised that while in detox they strongly encourage you to simply rest due to safety concerns. Also, the pool, equine therapy and offsite activities only occur during PHP.
- Housekeeping: This is the only area that really needs some help. While there, housekeeping never came to clean, nor were cleaning materials provided so patients could clean themselves.

All that said, this is THE place to go for recovery. Upon my departure, my soul, my mind and my heart were completely changed. I walked out crying because I didn’t want to leave. This entire experience has allowed me to become myself again and has me on a path of achieving all I’ve ever wanted. I am deeply grateful for my experience and I know you will be too!
Amazing rehab absolutely loved the program they have!!!
Can not say enough good things about this place. The staff really cares about every single patient! It shows in everything they do. Highly recommend this rehab center. Take that first step, pass through the doors into PLR!
This was a great experience. Most people leave reviews like this is some resort but it is a recovery center. This was my second time here and I have 158 days. Made lots of friends and built a good network in my sober community. Just remember that recovery is selfish, you have to want it, and that "ITS NOT AN OPTION" -Dr. G

Update 01/15/2024 (347 days since my last drink)
Update: 04/16/2024 I left PLR on 420 (438)
Response from the owner:Hello, thank you for the kind words and feedback!

How long is outpatient rehab?

The time spent in outpatient rehab varies from person to person. However, most patients complete their outpatient rehab program in 1–3 months or up to a year.

Is drug or alcohol detox included?

Medical detox is not provided in outpatient rehab. If you need a medical detox to begin your recovery, you can complete a detox at The Recovery Village Palmer Lake prior to starting inpatient or outpatient care.

Does outpatient rehab work?

Many individuals have found recovery through outpatient rehab. Although substance use disorders aren’t curable, the prospect of recovery is real. Patients often witness notable enhancements in physical and mental well-being, relationships, safety, legal standing, employment or education, and relapse duration after their time in care.

Is transportation provided for outpatient rehab?

No, finding transportation to get to and from outpatient rehab appointments is the patient’s responsibility. Denver Mental Health & Counseling also offers teletherapy sessions for those who would struggle to travel to the treatment center.

How can I pay for outpatient rehab?

Insurance may cover some or all of outpatient rehab costs. Copays and meeting deductibles may still be involved. Denver Mental Health & Counseling can also help people without insurance develop an affordable payment plan.

Will I lose my job if I go to rehab?

Several laws are in place to protect employees when they attend rehab. Outpatient rehab appointments can also be scheduled around work hours.
